Laía Argüelles is an artist, bookbinder and word-maker. She is a PhD candidate in Philosophy, specializing in Aesthetics and Contemporary Art. With a body of work strongly related to the potential of images and language with a conceptual approach, the gathering, classification and reinterpretation of found materials and photographs through intervention and montage are at the core of her practice.

Her books, object pieces and series convey the possibilities of connectedness and meaning-making between bodies and images. Focused on the tensions of the body in water, her research deals with the translatability of experience and the use of imagination as an epistemological tool.

She loves swimming and browsing flea markets, and holds degrees in Translation and Interpreting (Universitat Pompeu Fabra, 2008) and Fine Arts (Universitat Politècnica de València, 2015), as well as an MA in Philosophy (Universidad de Zaragoza, 2019). Currently based in Spain, she has also lived in UK, Iceland and Germany.
